US Highpoints - New Mexico
After passing close to Wheeler Peak a couple times in the past two years, declining to try the climb every time due to time, sore legs, and/or snow constraints, we finally managed to fit in an attempt of the New Mexico highpoint on our way home to Texas in 2010. The weather was great, we had a good night's sleep in the Taos Ski Valley parking lot (in Howie), and we were ready to go. I felt the altitude - must not be quite so acclimated any more! - but we made it to the top in 2.5 hours and back down in just over 4 hours total. A beautiful day, but very windy and cold on top. It was great to finally be there!
